We offer two types of Christening services at St Mary’s.
Baptism means ‘washing’. The water used in baptism is a sign or symbol of the washing away of our sins that happened when Jesus died for us on the cross. It says that a person has given up on their old life, and is now living a new life of following Jesus. It is a sign for adults who have recently come to faith in Christ, or for children of adults who themselves are following Jesus and are regular members of a church community. Baptisms are normally conducted during the 10am Sunday service.
A Thanksgiving service is a special time to celebrate the gift of your child and name them. It recognises they are God’s gift to you. In the service we pray for you and your child and commend them to God as they grow up in His world. Thanksgiving services are usually for those who are not regular members of a church and who don’t feel they are ready to make the promises in baptism. Nonetheless, the thanksgiving service is a wonderful way to celebrate God’s good gift of your child. Thanksgivings are normally conducted during the 10am Sunday service.
If you are interested in a baptism or thanksgiving, please come to a Sunday service soon and meet our minister, Aleks after church over morning tea. Alternatively you are welcome to phone the church office (02) 9389 3077 or email Aleks directly – firstname.lastname@example.org
