Saint Mary the Virgin is a beautiful church in which the people of God have been married since 1863. We have the marriage records dating back to that time, and recently one family was surprised to learn that their great grandfather was a New Zealander – born in Napier – they knew his wedding had taken place soon after the church was opened but did not know his heritage.
Marriage is a blessing of love given by God to God’s people and at Saint Mary’s the combination of beauty and family tradition make it a much sought after location. The beauty of the liturgy, the organ and the actual conduct of the wedding are complemented by the scenic lawn and garden that surround the church. Many a family photo of great moment has been recorded on the eastern steps.
Since Saint Mary’s is such a popular church for weddings, please download the pdf on the Wedding Application page to be fully acquainted with our procedures and secure your preferred date.
