Saint Mary's Columbarium and Memorial Garden is a place set aside for the respectful interment of the cremated remains of deceased loved ones.
It was established in 1957 and is situated immediately behind the church on the northern side. There is a boundary wall of niches in addition to a tranquil memorial garden. There is always visitor access available to the columbarium. People are also welcome to enter the church for quiet reflection and prayer when the church is open.
For assistance to those wishing to find their loved ones in the Columbarium please call the Administrator on 02 9389 3077. You will be given a location advice stating the SECTION, COLUMN and ROW which you can then refer to the Columbarium Map page.
Some Terminology and Assistance
Ashes can either be picked up by the family or the Funeral Director can arrange the transfer of ashes to the parish office at St. Mary's to enable interment to proceed.
Niches may be purchased at the time of breavement but is preferable to purchase in advance, especially where family grouping is required. The parish office can advise on the location of the few remaining available niches. An application form is on the back page or one can be downloaded from our website.
A bronze plaque of standard size and design is affixed to the wall over each niche. Plaques can be inscribed according to the family's wishes and there is always the offer of assistance in deciding just what to say if need be.
Single or double headstones are available for those who prefer to have their loved one's ashes placed into the Memorial Garden. Small plaques can be made to surmount the headstones.
For those who desire it a brief interment service can be conducted by one of the clergy. The cost for this is included in the plaque fees.
